[4고급] This past week in Southern California has been hard on a lot of people.
"For I am convinced
that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can't, and life can't. The angels won't, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God's love away." Romans 8:38 (TLB) Dear Saddleback Family, This past week in Southern California has been hard on a lot of people. On top of the rising COVID numbers, we also had to deal with another wildfire here in Lake Forest. Many of our members had to evacuate their homes in order to stay safe. I know a lot of you are tired. You're discouraged. You're depressed. But you need to know that no matter how bad life gets - no matter how bad 2020 gets - you can rest in one important truth: God won't stop loving you. That truth should be one of the most important sources of joy in your life. When you put your hand in God's hand, he grabs it and won't let go. God holds on to you with all he has. You'll have times in your life when you'll want to let go of God's hand. You'll want to give up your commitment to Christ when times get tough. But God won't let go of you - ever. Once you put your hand in his, it's there to stay. Don't go through life alone. There are people out there who are waiting to love you and support you. If you're in a small group, stay connected. Don't isolate yourself. Lean into your relationships. If you're feeling alone and don't have that community yet, there's a group for you. I love you. I'm praying for you. We'll get through this together! Saddleback at Home What did it mean for Jesus to call himself the "light of the world"? Join Meaghan Grider as she reflects on the hope that Christmas gives us. Learn More Saddleback at Home Church News Saddleback Member's Tears of Sorrow Turned Into Tears of Joy After Devastating Loss Over the past four decades, Saddleback has helped thousands of people learn how to live out God's purposes for their life. One of the ways our church does this is through CLASS, a seminar series that teaches people about growing in their faith. Class 201 helps people dive deeper into their relationship with Jesus Christ through reading Scripture, memorizing Bible verses, and starting a daily quiet time. CLASS at Saddleback has had to make some adjustments during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the program is still thriving and changing lives. Recently, one of our Saddleback Irvine North members decided to take Class 201 as she searched for hope and purpose during the most difficult season of her life. The woman not only lost her job during the pandemic, but their family was crushed when she suffered a miscarriage. "The baby was growing and everything was fine and then the doctor told me that the baby stopped growing," the woman said as she choked back tears. "He didn't have a heartbeat anymore, it was devastating." The grief was crippling, but still the woman and her family leaned into their faith - trusting that God would also draw near to them in their time of sorrow. He did. "In all of these experiences this year, God has been there the whole time," she said. "He has been comforting me ... and I know that when I am suffering he is right there alongside me." As days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months, the woman's tears of sorrow turned into tears of joy as she grew in her relationship with Christ. She said the spiritual habits she learned in Class 201 played a huge role as she began to trust God with her deepest hurt. "[One] habit that they talked about was memorizing Bible verses," she said, "and I feel like that's just crucial in our spiritual walk." The words of Ephesians 3:20 comforted the woman beyond what she could've ever imagined in the midst of such uncertainty in the world and personal suffering: "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us." While the loss of her unborn child still weighs heavily on her heart, she knows that God is healing her day by day and guiding her steps. "I really just lean on that," she said. "We may have our plan and our timing of when we want things and what we want to happen, but God's plan is exceedingly and abundantly above ours."
