The main idea of a story tells
what the story is all about.
1. find the main idea for each story.
Then draw a line under it.
Billy is a dog walker.
He walks dogs before school.
He walks dogs after achool.
When Billy finishes,
he has fun.
He takes his own dog for a walk.
The main idea is
Billy goes to school.
Billy walks many dogs.
First, Pam puts on her dress.
Next, she puts on her hat.
Last, she gets into bed.
Pam wants to be ready for school tomorrow!
Pam finds a kitten.
Pam gets ready for school early.
2. Draw a line under the main idea.
Father takes the airplane.
He shows Jenny
how to play with it.
He shows her over and over again.
The Plane is for Jenny.
But Father has all the fun.
Father plays with an airplane.
Father goes to work.
Fahter gets a car.
Jack wants to get a letter.
He asks for one day after day.
At last, Mrs. Hill brings Jack a letter.
Jack gets the letter A.
Mrs. Hill works hard.
Jack plays ball.
Jack gets a letter.
3. Read each story.
Write the main idea.
Tom made a little man.
He gave the man many things to do.
But the little man just loved to work.
Now he does not want to stop.
What is the main idea?
Bee wants to try new food.
First, it tries rabbit food.
Next, it tries dog food.
Last, it tries food for children.
Now Bee does not want any more new food.
It is happy to eat bee food.
Write a story
about something you do in school.
Use another piece of paper.
Write the main idea under your story.
